To be able to look back upon ones life in satisfaction, is to live twice. Khalil Gibran
It doesn’t matter as much what you have in life as how you feel about it. Being satisfied with what you have and what you are is essential, since this is the foundation for your happiness. But how to find this life satisfaction?
Don’t be afraid to pursue the things that you truly want. Often, you know better than anybody what will help you feel content with the place you have reached. Your wants might not align with what society says you have to want, but they will usually point you in the right direction.
Identify the expectations that have been placed upon yourself by others. Do you really want that car or a body that looks a certain way? It’s likely that you have been influenced by what others say. Don’t let false wants push you away from your true path.
The next thing to consider for satisfaction is relationships. People can hardly be happy on their own. They need other people around them. Some seek romance to find fulfillment, while others are content with friendships. It depends. But everybody needs somebody to share their life in one way or another.
To get satisfying relationships, you need to find the people who best understand you. It’s important not to stay in toxic relationships, but instead free room to nurture the better bonds you can make.
Life satisfaction is not just about pursuing your desires and a social network. It’s also about being able to find the meaning and purpose of your existence. Meaning is something you choose and construct. What is the most important mark you want to leave on the world? How do you want to live your life?
Satisfaction comes from a life that aligns with the meaning you give it, from living in accordance to your values. You need to know what those values are and check that your life is aligned with these ideals.
However, beyond that, life satisfaction comes from enjoying the present. You don’t get anything but the present, so it’s essential for you to center your mind on what’s going on here and now.
Savor your food. Enjoy the fresh air. Take in the view. Even if you are struggling, take some time to slow down and recognize what is going on at the moment. This will be the most satisfying thing you can do for your well-being.
