All you really have is today. The present moment is the only one that is real.
Think about it. The past is gone. It cannot be changed. Worrying and regretting things will only lead you to further mistakes. It will take the present away from you.
There is no point worrying about the future either. It is not here yet. It is not yet real. Only the present is real.
If you accept this, it becomes a priority to focus your attention on the present. Don’t bring in future and past concerns – they can ruin your day and take your attention away from what truly matters.
Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy.
Grounding your mind in the present will make a huge difference. You are no longer losing time focusing on something that is not real and not within your grasp.
Focusing on the here and now will allow you to seize the day. You will be able to take action now instead of waiting.
Seize the day! Do the things that matter most right now, don’t put them off until a nebulous “when the time is right”. The time is right in the present, because this is the only moment that is real.
It takes time and effort to learn how to be in the present. However, there is no better way of using this time and energy. Practice being present in the moment. When you catch yourself drifting away, bring your mind gently into the present.
Here are some things that can help you live in the now fully. Ask yourself what you see, hear, smell, or taste. Immerse yourself in the current sensations.
Ask yourself what is going on with you. What are you feeling? Are you comfortable in the here and now or is there something to be fixed? What is the experience of the now?
Remember that every moment is unique. It won’t come again. It’s best to try and enjoy it to the fullest.
Let go of the past. We all have regrets, but there is nothing to be done about it. The best thing is to strive to do better here and now. Focus on the moment – what can you do to live it in the best way possible? This is the way to build a life you will not regret.
