Few things are as frightening as the possibility of change. Even a positive change can be scary.
If I get this promotion, will I be able to handle it? If I date this person, will I ruin the relationship? If something changes, will I be able to cope?
These are questions that we often find ourselves asking. Good or bad, change might be difficult to manage. However, the reality is that change is the one constant in life.
Change is part of our daily lives. Every moment, something changes. Every day, we change as well. This means that learning how to adapt to change is one of the most essential skills in life. We need to know how to adapt.
The first step is to accept change as inevitable. It will come and it will happen. You get to prepare yourself for it, but you can’t stop it from happening.
However, change is not something bad. Every time there is a shift, there is definitely a positive effect. Change helps us grow and become better. Even if it hurts, there is always a silver lining.
When you are faced with a change you don’t like, ask yourself: How will this make me better? What can I learn from this? How can I use it to my advantage?
Sometimes, we can find few benefits. But then it’s still useful to think of change as a constant – this thing that is hurting us won’t last forever. It will also change soon enough.
As it challenges us, change also makes us better. We can only improve by going forward. When we embrace it, our growth becomes easier and better.
Consider what is your relationship to change. Do you accept it or do you resist it? How comfortable are you when things progress? By allowing it to happen and looking for the bright side, we can improve our lives and make them a lot less painful.
Whatever we do, change will happen. The best thing we can do is going with the flow and letting it happen, letting it teach us.
Accept change and grow with it.
